Founded by the Herrera family in Valle del Cauca, Colombia, Café Granja La Esperanza has become one of the world’s most respected producers of specialty coffee. Today, third-generation producers Rigoberto and Luis Herrera continue the family’s legacy, combining decades of experience with a relentless pursuit of innovation.
What sets Café Granja La Esperanza apart is their dedication to cultivating rare coffee varieties and developing precise processing techniques that highlight each cultivar’s unique character. Across their network of farms including Potosí, Cerro Azul, Las Margaritas, Hawaii and La Esperanza - they have pioneered the exceptional varieties such as Geisha, Sudan Rume, Mokka, Pacamara, Mandela and Laurina.
Laurina Natural
Laurina, also known as Bourbon Pointu, is an exceptionally rare natural mutation of Bourbon that is prized for its naturally low caffeine content - typically around 40–50% lower than conventional Arabica. Despite its elegant cup profile, Laurina is notoriously difficult to cultivate due to its low productivity and delicate growing requirements, making it one of the rarest varieties found in specialty coffee.
For this natural lot, only fully ripe cherries are hand-selected before undergoing a carefully controlled whole-cherry fermentation. The cherries are then slowly dried to preserve the variety’s delicate fruity aromatics while enhancing its vibrant fruit sweetness and winey flavour profile.
